Happy man getting off an airplane! |
Maybe I’m off my feed, but I couldn’t find anything to
complain about on our trip to Amsterdam.
Our grandson Zac drove us to the airport under a full Traveler’s Moon. All the flights were on time. Breaking up the long journey in Washington
worked well, and we found ourselves in Amsterdam in the early morning. While taxiing to the terminal Dwight’s phone
informed us that we were six feet under sea level. We were met at the airport by a private car
and whisked off to the MOVENPICK HOTEL on the waterfront, next to a dock with many riverboats.
After a short nap, I set off to explore our surroundings. I did a circuit through the Central Station, Old Town, Dam Square and Nieuwmarkt. If you’re missing someone, you might be able
to find them in Amsterdam. Surely a third of the people in the world are here. (Another one third are probably in Venice.) And this is the off season. Tourism has come to mean hordes of people. Maybe that’s why quietly sailing through the countryside has become popular, leaving these crowded urban centers behind. We had a delicious, quiet dinner by the sea.

There are still some tranquil spots in Amsterdam. |

Tomorrow, we’re
trying to decide between the Cromhouthuizen (Biblical Museum), the Museum of
Bags and Purses, Museum of the Canals, Museum Our Lord in the Attic, Erotic
Museum, Eye Film Museum, Houseboat Museum, Heineken Experience, Hash and Hemp
Museum and too many other options to name.
Dwight wants the Erotic Museum while I’m pulling for the Bible
Museum. Do you think we’re mismatched? Maybe we'll compromise on the Heineken Experience.
